5 simple ways I’m keeping my cool this holiday season ❄️🎄

Hey Reader—

On my walk the other day, I was reminded of how wonderful it is that we have seasons.

Times when we can go full throttle—and others, like December, when your brain isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders.

It got me thinking:
This is a season to rest, so that when January comes—fresh and sparkly—we’ll have the energy to run with it.

But for now, I want to be fully present and embrace this slower season intentionally.

Finding joy in the small, simple moments? Yes, please.

I’m setting the dial to gentle this December with a few rhythms that help me stay centered instead of spinning out.

How I’m Avoiding Holiday Burnout

📝 Intention #1: Keeping my to-do list small

Why? Because I have a tendency to think that, in order to fully reset, I need to deep clean every closet, catch up on every message, tidy all the systems, and check off every to-do.

🛠️ Here’s the move: I’ve got 2–3 biggish things on the list. If they get done—wonderful. If not? I’ll tackle them in January.

📖 Intention #2: Finishing ONE book

Why? Because completing small, doable things builds momentum.

🛠️ Here’s the move: One chapter a day moves the ball forward on finally finishing that dog-eared book. I’ve got two chapters left of Bait of Satan (SO. GOOD). Then maybe I’ll tackle another.

✅ Intention #3: Prioritizing achievable goals with instant results

Why? While slow & steady (like above) is normally how I roll during the year, December flips the script. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the shorter days & fewer hours …

🛠️ Here’s the move: Do one thing—bake cookies, mop the floor, wrap presents. Get it done. Feel accomplished.

✋🏻 Intention #4: Holding off on starting new things

Why? The new year buzz is already creeping in, but I’m resisting the urge to jump ahead.

🛠️ Here’s the move: I’m keeping a running list on my phone of ideas, goals, and “fix-it-later” tasks. When one comes up, I say, “That’s great. We’ll revisit it in January.” No more should-ing on myself.

🪡 Intention #5: Giving myself permission to work on fun projects

Why? I’m creative at heart, and I go stir-crazy without some playful outlet.

🛠️ Here’s the move: Intentionally setting aside time to finish our year-in-review home movie, that little embroidery project I started, and finally quilt the baby blanket I promised my sister-in-law for my nephew arriving in January.

These intentions are how I’m surviving December without losing my ever-loving mind.

I hope they give you a little inspo to set your own holiday intentions!

So tell me—
What’s one thing you’re committing to this month to stay sane?
Hit reply and let me know—I’ll be here sipping almond milk eggnog and decorating a gingerbread house (err… neighborhood). 🫶🏼

Warmly,

P.S. My friends and I played that “What’s on your phone?” game—and I lost hard. No email. No Facebook. No Instagram. No Pinterest. No alarm chaos. Total "loser" status... and yet? So proud. The only thing that saved my score? 28,000+ photos on my phone—mostly of BG families. 🤪

Here's to quieting the noise this December.

Hey Reader! This week was supposed to be the one. Launch spring minis. Hit send on the newsletter. Cross a few big to-dos off that shiny new planner. Instead? We ended up babysitting my niece twice while my sister-in-law gets ready to welcome baby #2 any day now. And today, the house is full of birthday balloons & frosting sugar cookies for my sister's birthday! And in between it all, I’ve been trying to finish a handmade quilted baby blanket (as if we didn't know this little boy been coming...

Hey Reader! The challenge this week isn’t doing more. It’s not letting the pressure hijack the peace you just built. I’m easing back into work after a two-week holiday break—and truly, it was delightful. Somewhere on the drive home, I heard myself say out loud:“I think this is how it’s supposed to feel to be human.” We squeezed in so much quality time—my love bank feels full. 📽️ I finished our year-in-review home movie ⛰️ Gave the Yellowstone 2025 album as a Christmas gift 🧵Carved out time for...

Hey Reader— In less than a week, this Christmas will be a memory. 🥹 The wrapping paper? Gone. The tree lights? Unplugged. And your kids? Just a little bit older. That thought stopped me cold this morning. 😳 Maybe it’s the eggnog + snickerdoodles diet I’m on, or the whole short-days-busy-schedules combo, but I’m spinning a little at how fast these days are flying. One minute I’m planning… the next, I’m wondering how we got here so fast. Here’s what I’m reminding myself—and what I want you to...
