“It’s better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it”
The first time I remember her saying that to me, I was 6 deciding if it was silly to bring a jacket to the freezing cold grocery store, even though it's the middle of summer in Arizona. 🧥☀️
Somehow, Mom always knows.
I come back to that one all the time. It rings in my ears like she's said it to me 1,782.43 times.
Probably because she has.
It’s not just good advice—it helpful. It’s a quiet little nudge I use to make a quick gut decision.
Here’s what I know:
The best advice doesn’t always feel groundbreaking in the moment. But when you start testing it in the real world? That’s where the magic happens.
For me, this little phrase has turned into a reset button when I overthink. It inspires not only my accessory decisions now, but also how I run my sessions … “better make sure to get one more good family shot.” Those usually end up being the favorites—thanks, mom. It directs how I plan, serve my BG Moms, and why I bring along one more “just in case memory card”.
Because the truth is—it never hurts to be prepared.
If you’ve been needing a little nudge, maybe this is it. 💛
So whether you're making dinner or getting ready for the Mommy & Me meet up at the park, my sweet, Type A mother would want you to remember:
- Go in over prepared. Pack the extra back up outfit in the diaper bag.
- Be kind to your future self. Keep one back up dinner frozen.
- Give yourself plenty of margin. Add an extra 15 minutes here and there in the schedule … because shoes take longer to tie than expected.
I’ve ignored it before. I wouldn’t recommend that route.
Now go do something your future self will high-five you for.
Warmly,
P.S. Hit reply and share: What’s the best advice your mom—or any wise woman in your life—ever gave you? I’d love to hear (and likely apply 😉) it.
P.P.S. Looking for something meaningful to treat yourself (or your mom) to? Book your spot at one of the upcoming mini session day! →
P.P.P.S I asked my mom what her favorite advice she ever received was as a mom with young kids ...
"Always have something on the table that everyone will eat." For her, that was apple sauce, and crispy dinner bread with grape jelly. Not even the pickiest eaters ever went to bed hungry. 🍎🥖🍇
Take it. Use it. Pretend it was your idea.
