Hey Reader!

There I was standing on my marker, Caitee’s book-bag on my shoulder and my “hot coffee” prop was … well … ice cold. I paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and looked around. A crew of 10-15 people all organized, ready to film, all waiting on the director’s cue. (Read the full story HERE!)

And standing calmly in the center of it all… the director, Caitee.

Daniel and I made eye contact from across the way and we just knew she was so in her element! Very few people could pull off such a production … but Caitee? She was *made* for this.

I wasn't looking for some big revelation—actually, I was just trying to remember how Caitee wanted me to say my lines—but in that moment it hit me:

“Give your kids the space and time to play around and see what they enjoy doing, then pursue THAT … and they will thrive.”

⬆️ That was pretty much my mom’s homeschool philosophy. Charlotte Mason said it a little more eloquently then my mother…

“We shall give children space to develop on the lines of their own characters in all right ways.”

And as I watched Caitee RUN the whole night it clicked: “I can’t believe it’s finally happening.”

I’m so grateful my folks gave us that space to try things!

🧮 Geometry? Made us cry.

🏐 Sports? Public embarrassment.

📒 Reading & Writing? Huh, not half bad. Kind of fun, actually.

🎥 Cameras, storytelling, leading people well? Can’t get enough of it!!

Maybe you've felt this too: Balancing wanting to do all the “right” things for your kids, but also wanting them to unlock all their wonderful God-given talents.

No big finish here. Just wanted to share it in case it lands for you too.

They took a chance on betting that the things she loved would take her far and gosh, it’s exciting watching it all fall into place! 🥰

And on Monday, for the first time we watched her produce & direct her first ever film!! She named me “Head of the Art Department” (actually, I was the *entire* art dept.) and Actress B… and it was a blast! 🤩🎬

And get this: It took 5 HOURS to record a ONE MINUTE SCENE!
