How we turned family photos into our favorite tradition 🍂
Published about 1 month ago • 4 min read
Hey Reader!
The “Just the girls” family text exploded like confetti with “Happy Family Photos Week!” and all the fall emojis: 📷🍂🍁🥰
On Sunday, it's my turn to be in front of the camera for a change. And the photos are not the thing I’m most excited about… it’s what happens after them.
Because Sunday is about waayyyy more than Family photos …
We have made our own tradition out of family photos and we lovingly call it Fall Feast: After family photos, while everyone is still dressed fancy (heels and all!) we come home and enjoy a fancy fall dinner.
And when I say fancy, I mean we go all out. 🤩
We set the table like it’s a holiday. We light the pretty candles, pull out the good wine and charcuterie boards, turn on all the twinkle lights, and enjoy our favorite fall foods.
Not Thanksgiving food, because Fall Feast is it’s own thing!
After dinner and before dessert, we draw our Secret Santa names for Christmas. It has become one of those traditions we look forward to every single year!
How we pull it all off:
We learned that in order to really make a day this special … It needs to be restful. That means that ALL work for photos must be done BEFORE Sunday…
✅ Plans set: date, location, time
✅ Outfits picked
✅ Shoes picked
✅ Shirts ironed
✅ Dresses steamed
✅ All food prep done
So, when it’s time all you have to do is get “photo ready.”
⬆️ And THAT really is the biggest secret to making family photos an extra special tradition!
Because when you know that everything is DONE, there is no last minute scrambling!
You aren’t rushing out the door. You have the peace of mind that your outfits look great.
You show up to your session peaceful, calm, happy and have fun with your family!
AND you end up loving the photos even more!!
Taking the photos becomes the fun kick-off to the event & then you go home and the party really starts!
And that’s why I’m seriously so passionate about making family photos simple.
Because I hear it from moms all the time:
“It's hard to find time for family photos.”
"Our family’s schedule is packed … a birthday party every weekend, doctors appointments, sports, & just keeping up with grocery shopping."
"We have a busy toddler who is hard to wrangle for photos."
"And my husband isn’t exactly throwing confetti about taking family photos again."
So with every step of my experience, I’ve given it a hard look and asked:
“What if it were simple?”
That’s exactly why my 20 minute mini sessions are designed for busy families with young children.
It’s this simple…
Look at the dates & book your mini session
⭐️ Put together your family’s outfits using my *shoppable* style guides
Leave your session with happy kids, a happy husband, and dreamy photos
So instead of feeling frazzled and overwhelmed by family photos this fall …
You get to be the mom who easily captures your family’s legacy.
And that stared one? ⭐️ I’ve got an extra special bonus for you!! ⬇️
Because one of the biggest things that helped us plan all nine outfits (yes, nine!) in ONE week with ZERO returns… was the guide I made: 36 Dresses for Mom
If you book by 9 PM Sunday night, I’ll send you 36 shoppable dresses PLUS a color palette to go with each one, so once you pick your dress, you’ve already got the colors for everyone else locked in.
I wasn’t planning on bringing this guide back, but we’re celebrating this weekend! 🎉 It goes back into the vault at 9:01 pm on Sunday. 🔐
If it’s hard to find time for family photos then booking a session is the right decision.
→ You want a good, long session to give you the time & space to capture the photos you love without the hurry that comes with a petite session.
→ You want more than just the standard photo that any photographer can take -- you want photos that are unique to your family & tell your story a bit more.
→ You want photos that have more creativity, fun composition, and a nice mix of candid & posed photos ... those types of photos come by giving me more time to workshop & play around during the session!
