Hey Reader, I wanted to catch you before Peter Cottontail arrives!🐰
Here’s the thing no one tells you about Easter weekend:
The moments you’ll want later?
They’re usually not in the obvious spots.
Just like an egg hunt…
Some memories are easy to find.
Others? You only get them if you know where to look.
Today, I’m sharing a few of my go-to photographer “tricks” to help you capture this weekend intentionally.
So if you’ve got your iPhone handy—here’s where to point it 👇🏼
🥚 The “wide → tight” storytelling trick
This is a simple little dance I do at every session—and now you’ll start noticing it in all of my behind the scenes videos. 🙊
- Start a few steps back → take a wide shot
- Step in closer → grab a medium shot
- Move in even tighter → capture the details
In seconds, you’ve told the whole story:
- Wide: the scene
- Medium: the moment
- Tight: the feeling
👉 Take 3–4 photos like this… then put your camera away knowing you got it.
🥚 See It From Their World
Most people shoot from standing height.
Which means—you miss their world.
Instead:
- crouch down
- get eye-level
- move in close
Capture the tiny details:
- hands painting eggs
- little smiles
- Easter shoes, bows, sticky fingers
This is what turns a photo into a memory.
🥚 Catch It Before They Notice
You already know how to get the posed photo.
But the real magic?
It happens right before you ask for it.
That half-second before “Hey everyone! Smile for a picture!”
Quietly snap one first.
Then gather them.
Think:
- mid egg-hunt excitement
- your 6-year-old reading the resurrection story at breakfast
- the chocolate bunny right before it loses an ear
Those are the ones that you will love to look back on later.
Because here’s the thing—
You don’t capture meaningful photos by accident.
And you don’t need your camera out all weekend to do it well.
Go in with intention.
Take what you need.
Then put your phone down—and enjoy being present with your family.
If you want a few more simple ways to do this (without overthinking it), I put them all here in this blog for you:
And if you’re thinking…
“Okay… but I’d actually love to be in the photos this time.” 👀
I’ve got you covered.
There are just 2 spring mini session dates left →
So you don’t have to choose between documenting it and being part of it.
You already have the beautiful Spring outfits from Easter, the session is planned for you.
Just show up, enjoy, and leave with beautiful photos (with you in them!)
Here’s to finding the good stuff, even the ones hiding in plain sight. 🫶🏼
Have a wonderful Easter with your family! ✝️🐣🐰
Warmly,
P.S. Just start small and try just one of these this weekend. And if you get a photo you love with these tips, I would *love* to see it! Hit reply and share! 🥰
P.P.S. Bonus tip for you👇🏼
These same ideas work beautifully for video, too. 🎥
Capture a quick 3-second clip of each moment (wide, medium, tight), then drop them into CapCut and it will automatically stitch together a home movie for you.
Next Level: trim up the clips and add a little song to polish it off!
Now you’ve got a little Easter film your family will come back to again and again. 📺🎞️
